Soft Matter of slender structures and fluid interfaces.
My research is focused on the physics and mechanics of slender structures and their interactions with fluid interfaces. We have studied how elastocapillary coiling of spider silk filaments inside its glue droplet maintains tension in the system, turning it essentially into a liquid-solid mechanical hybrid. Now we are looking into how liquid substrates may modify the mechanical behavior of single (atomic) layer Graphene, as the source of rigidity in bending of this 2D material is based upon electron-electron interactions that may be disrputed, unlike elasticity, based on atomic bonds.
